North Middlesex Regional School District Announces Administrative Restructuring

The North Middlesex Regional School District announces the restructuring of administrative positions at the North Middlesex Regional High School as a cost-saving measure for the 2024-2025 budget.

Superintendent Morgan will work from NMRHS next year. In addition to performing his duties as superintendent, he will share the administrative principal workload at the high school. He will be mentoring Laurie Smith, who has been appointed NMRHS’ Interim Principal, and Ryan DeMar, who will serve in a dual role as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director.

Smith has served as NMRHS’ Assistant Principal since 2016. Smith started in the District in 1998, when she was hired as a Guidance and School Adjustment Counselor at NMRHS. Smith holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Services from Nichols College, a Master’s degree in Counselor Education, and a School Principal certification from Rivier University, where she also completed her postgraduate coursework.

DeMar has served in the roles of the District’s Assistant Principal, Supervisor of Students, Academic Transition Counselor, and Assistant Athletic Director since 2019. He joined NMRSD in 2018 when he was brought on as the high school’s Varsity Football Coach and Junior Varsity Lacrosse Coach. He holds a Master’s in Administration with an Athletic Concentration from Concordia University Irvine. His Bachelor’s degree is from Saint Anselm College.

“Laurie and Ryan have been with the District for a number of years, during which time they have cultivated many long-lasting relationships with our staff and students,” said Superintendent Morgan. “I look forward to working closely with them both as they assume new leadership roles in the coming year.”

Due to the significant increase in hours and the shifting of additional responsibilities in the 2024-2025 school year, Superintendent Morgan will receive a one-year stipend of $30,000 and Smith will receive a one-year stipend of $25,000. However, these changes to the high school administrative structure for the coming year will yield the District a net savings of about $240,000.

This restructuring plan is for the 2024-2025 school year. In early 2025, the District will create a hiring committee to begin the search process for a permanent high school principal, with employment to begin in the fall of 2025. It is anticipated that the hybrid role of Assistant Principal and Athletic Director will carry forth into subsequent budget years to continue to provide an administrative savings to NMRSD.
