Nissitissit Middle School Students Earn Gold at Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild Drama Festival

TOWNSEND — North Middlesex Regional School District proudly shares that Nissitissit Middle School was honored by the Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild (METG) Drama Festival on Sunday, May 3, for its outstanding production of “Beware the Jabberwock” by Ron Nicol.

The Middle School Drama Festival is an annual event organized by the METG. It provides a platform for middle school students to showcase their one-act plays, learn from one another, and receive constructive feedback from professionals. Judges recognize outstanding talent by awarding plaques and presenting All-Star Awards for performance and technical excellence.

Nissitissit Middle School students earned six all-star awards, a record number of wins for North Middlesex Regional School District. 

Award winners for Excellence in Acting include: 

  • Grade 8 student Nora Duncanson, for her portrayal of First Borogrove
  • Grade 7 student Landon Brooks, for his portrayal of Second Tov
  • Grade 8 student Ryan Matthews, for his portayal of Prince Percy
  • Grade 6 student Lyla Penny, for her portrayal of Lucy
  • Grade 7 student Sam LoBuono, for his portrayal of Tumtum Tree

Grade 8 student Piper Lynde received an award for Excellence in Technical Theater. She was responsible for costume design and construction for the production. 

At the festival, the entire theater company received high commendations for their exceptional teamwork in all aspects of the show.

The District would like to recognize all of the students who participated in the production: Fiona Holleran, Lyla Penney, Natalie Taylor, Landon Brooks, Wrejinc Mganga, Willa Holleran, Nora Duncanson, Orla Fox, Amalia Couto, Annalise Francis, Ryan Matthews, Sam LoBuono, Quentin May, Sophia Morbelli, Cora Piper, Ellie Galbraith, William Kosick, Alexis Martell, Stephanie DeJesus Rivera, Adrian Ortiz, Bennett Nicolet, Davian Cali-Gay, Oliver Sheeks, Chloe Cousin, Raya Fox, Piper Lynde, Katt Lupoli, Jaymi Mannion, Andrew LaBossiere, Taiya Benner, and Morgan Mansfield. 

“Bravo to this incredible ensemble for their hard work, passion and creativity, under the guidance of Theatre Teacher and Director Kathleen McKenzie and Assistant Director Demi Pineda,” said Principal Lauren Young.
