Superintendent Brad Morgan invites members of the North Middlesex Regional School District community to attend a virtual presentation regarding development of the 2024-2025 budget on Wednesday, April 10.
The presentation will begin at 6 p.m. Superintendent Morgan will explain how District administrators develop each year’s school budget in alignment with the core values of meeting the educational, social, and emotional needs of all students.
They also will address a number of challenges facing North Middlesex and other districts across the state. These include addressing achievement gaps due to pandemic-era disruption, sharply increasing costs of special education and out-of-district placements, and inflation in the costs of goods and services, while maintaining a level of services that supports quality education.
Superintendent Morgan’s presentation will last approximately 20 minutes. It will be followed by a session during which Superintendent Morgan will answer as many pre-submitted questions as possible in the time remaining.
The North Middlesex Regional School Committee has adopted its FY25 budget that requests a 6.27 percent increase over FY24. This represents a level-service budget and is necessary for the District to maintain what it is currently offering its students. The budget was developed by the administration and staff to reflect the District’s core values of meeting the educational, social, and emotional needs of all students in a safe and welcoming environment.
Without this increase, NMRSD projects having to reduce its budget by $3 million, and:
- Eliminating 30-32 staff positions, resulting in K-8 class sizes of 27 to 32
- Eliminating all after-school programming: athletics, band, clubs, etc.
