
TOWNSEND — North Middlesex Regional School District’s Supervisor of Health Services, Cathryn Hampson, has been named the Massachusetts School Nurse Organization’s (MSNO) 2026 Anne Sheetz Award recipient.
The Anne Sheetz Award recognizes a Massachusetts school nurse currently working in school health, whether in direct service, administration, education, or research.
The recipient must exemplify the qualities Anne Sheetz, the Director of School Health Services in the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, portrays in her work.
Criteria to win the award include:
- Advocacy: State legislative and/or local advocacy that advances policies supporting student health, safety, attendance and achievement.
- Collaboration: Partnering with diverse organizations and individuals to create, improve and evaluate school health practices.
- Dissemination: Sharing best practices and critical student health information through presentations and publications.
- Professionalism: Maintaining current practice standards and earning the respect of colleagues.
- Research: Engaging in data collection and reporting related to student health and school nursing practice.
- Risk-Taking: Demonstrating leadership and communication that encourage continuous improvement in policies and practices that support students.
Award recipients must be members of MSNO and may be serving on the Board of Directors.
Hampson received a Master of Science in Nursing from St. Joseph’s College of Maine and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Fitchburg State University. She has 40 years of nursing experience, including 30 years in school nursing.
Throughout her career, she has worked in hospitals, communities and schools across New Mexico, South America and New England.
As the Supervisor of Health Services, Hampson manages the district’s health services program and supports the needs of North Middlesex students. Hampson is often seen collaborating with district staff, the community and families, to ensure students are safe, healthy and ready to learn.
Hampson serves as the Chair of the Wellness committee in the district and is deeply involved with MSNO. She serves as the MSNO Liaison for the Massachusetts chapter of the Children’s Mental Health Task Force.
Recently, Hampson spoke at the 2026 International School Nurses Conference in Gotemba, Japan, addressing the school nurse workforce shortage.
