TOWNSEND — North Middlesex Regional School District is proud to announce that Assistant Superintendent Dr. Gary Burboa-Reese has been chosen as this year’s Massachusetts recipient of the National Association of Federal Education Program Administrators (NAFEPA) 2026 State Leadership Award.

The award, given annually to over three dozen administrators nationwide, is presented to Title 1 directors or directors of compensatory education programs, who demonstrate strong leadership and prioritize high-quality education and care for low-income children and their families.

Dr. Burboa-Reese was selected by his peers, Title 1 leaders and administrators across the Commonwealth, who recognized his work ethic and drive to support students and provide them with the best opportunities possible throughout their education.

Dr. Burboa-Reese has worked in the field of education for over 30 years, in roles including special educator, elementary assistant principal, elementary principal, Director of Curriculum, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, and School superintendent.

Outside of his work within the K-12 setting, he has taught graduate college courses for individuals obtaining licensure as educators and administrators. He has also participated on a variety of community and human service boards to promote increased opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Dr. Burboa-Reese, along with other Title 1 administrators, will be honored and presented with their awards at NAFEPA’s annual conference to be held from Mar. 15 through Mar. 18, 2026, in Washington, D.C.

“I am so pleased to see Dr. Burboa-Reese recognized for both his impact on students throughout North Middlesex Regional School District and across the state,” said Superintendent Brad Morgan. “Dr. Burboa-Reese works every day to make progress within our school district with the needs of our student body at the forefront. On behalf of the District, I would like to congratulate him on this achievement.”
